Jute underfoot: why a handmade rug lasts

Jute underfoot: why a handmade rug lasts

A handmade jute rug is made slowly, coil by coil, from a fibre that already grew in the fields of Bangladesh. That is why it sits well in a home and why it lasts longer than a piece cut from a machine roll.

At Crafting Corner the weavers choose the colour, the border and the size with the room in mind. A 3 ft round by the door feels different from a 5 ft rug under a table, but both start with the same honest material.

When you take one home, you take the hours that went into it, and a floor that stays close to nature.
